The Critical Political and Security Situation in Palestine

The Critical Political and Security Situation in Palestine, Under the Israeli Occupation

Under the new Israeli fascist right-wing extremist government that encourages violence against Palestinians, the struggle and resistance against the Israeli occupation continue to become more and more challenging day by day. Escalations of the complex security situation in Palestine have been ongoing since 2022, and the conditions keep going from bad to worse in 2023.

Continuous murders, arrests and destruction

2022 was one of the deadliest years for Palestinian, and 2023 appears to be the same so far as 65 Palestinians were martyred in the first 2 months of the year. Since 2022 until now, the number of martyrs has reached 365. And since the beginning of 2023, Israeli forces have been waging a brutal campaign of arrests and raids.

Since the beginning of this year, the Israeli occupation arrested hundreds of Palestinians including men, children and women, and issued more than 19 administrative detention orders.

Constant Invasions, Attacks and Violations

In January 26th 2023, Israeli military reinforcements invaded Jenin Refugee Camp and killed 9 Palestinians, among them an elderly woman. Aqabat Jabr Camp, located southwest of Jericho Governorate, was also invaded twice in 2023, and Jericho was under siege for ten days; 5 Palestinians were martyred and tens were injured.

On Sunday, the 26th of February, hundreds of Israeli settlers aggressively invaded Huwara Town near Nablus Governorate. They attacked Palestinian civilians, murdered one of them and burned down tens of buildings and cars, and consequently, Israeli forces enforced a blockade around Nablus which is still becoming increasingly stricter. Besides that, invasions of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem by violent settlers are increasing, considering that this place has sacred significance for Palestinians.

Nablus Governorate in northern West Bank is also constantly exposed to multiple attacks and sieges by Israeli forces. In February 2023, heavily armed Israeli forces surrounded a house in the Old City of Nablus and fired live ammunition and tear gas canisters in residential areas, resulting in 5 gunshot injuries ,10 martyrs and more than 100 injuries.

Recent Ruthless Israeli Knesset Decision

The Israeli Knesset voted on Wednesday (1\3\2023) to support the legislation of the death penalty for Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons. Moreover, Palestinian detainees are facing more brutal procedures such as restricting their access to water, getting poor-quality food, depriving them of proper medical attention and much more inhuman practices. Therefore, there have been plans by Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons to start an open hunger strike as a collective response to prison regulations.

How Can People All Over the World Give Support and Solidarity with Palestinians?

  • Utilizing different media platforms and the voice of the public to spread information and news about the injustices and oppression Palestinians go through on a daily basis to reveal the reality that most international media platforms don’t show.
  • Pressure on governments to condemn the inhuman Israeli practices against Palestinians.
  • Supporting those who are harmed because of those violations, providing them with medical or food assistance and looking for funding, particularly in different refugee camps in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
